Tithe/Stewardship Commitment 2026
Want to know one thing you can start doing right now to help address the massive increase in people for our St John the Baptist Serbian Orthodox parish due to the conversion surge?
TITHE TO OUR PARISH
If you don't tithe, it becomes more challenging to train and assign new clergy.
If you don't tithe, it is harder to build bigger buildings that we need here.
If you don't tithe, it is harder to start new missions.
We know the usual objections – some people even seem to think that tithing is “Old Testament” and we're now “New Testament,” so that means it's not necessary.
What you may not know is that Old Testament tithing actually amounted to 23.33% (there were 2 1/3 tithes). And you may also not know that when the Church Fathers addressed the OT tithe, they said that in the New Covenant, we DO MORE than in the Old – not less.
If you start giving 10% to your parish, not only will you be doing yourself a huge spiritual favour – because giving transforms your heart – but you will be directly addressing the massive influx of converts coming into the Orthodox Church right now.
Many of them are young and therefore don't have much income yet, so even if they tithe themselves, it won't have the needed impact. It is absolutely incumbent on those who are in the Church now to make sure they are welcomed well, and that means we have to put our resources into it.
If you're not ready for 10% yet, try 8%. Can't do that? Try 5%, try 2%... Whatever you do, start somewhere, but it's time to put your money where your mouth is.
If you want to see our Orthodox community flourish and be healthy, this is a direct, immediate, powerful thing to do.
And if you really are truly incapable of giving any of your income to your parish – and we know that is a real thing for many people – then pray and work and help in every way that you can.
We are going to need new parishes in the years to come and new clergy, just to keep up.
